Refining Your Australia Job Search

    Friday January 23, 2009

It may seem counterintuitive, but sometimes keeping your Australia job search broad can lead you to finding fewer jobs. This is due to the fact that having to spread your focus over many listings can leave you unable to spot the jobs you are actually interested in and suited to. Which do you think you can give more attention to: a group of 15 listings that specifically apply to your preferred occupation, or 200 listings in your general area? The larger Australia job search will theoretically find you more jobs, but you may end up only quickly browsing the listings, so that you actually find fewer jobs yourself overall.

This is why it is advisable on an Australia job search to start from the most specific search for your job and then to become more general, rather than starting general and then becoming more specific. Do not make assumptions that your search is too specific until it has actually failed to yield you any job listings. Start with as refined an Australia job search as possible and only move to greater generalities as you exhaust your opportunities for applications.
